Lean Six Sigma
Black Belt
Practical Project Certification
Course Description Syllabus Instructor FAQ
The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course adds more statistics and problem solving tools to the structured approach of continuous improvement projects found in Green Belt.
In addition to the DMAIC project roadmap, this course includes the statistical tools of confidence interval, hypothesis testing and correlation. It will also include a review of the teamwork and leadership aspects of being a Black Belt and a practical course on using failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) for problem solving in business processes.
This course will focus on practical learning by doing in small groups and emphasises making this simple and approachable so you can use the power of these tools and the software used easily.
It will develop your knowledge of the teamworking tools and your ability to lead the team in achieving a goal regardless of whether the project is in an operational or manufacturing context or a transactional or business process.
As a Black Belt you would be expected to lead projects in any part of a business, from one end to the other. Your familiarity with all of the tools and readiness to lead projects enables you to become an ambassador of Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement.
On completion of this course you will be awarded:
On delivery of your certification project you will be awarded:

Two days of practice with the tools for basic analysis of data and sample statistics for Six Sigma.
In this module we will demonstrate and practice the more analytical tools used in Six Sigma projects.
Two days of more advanced tools and statistics for Black Belt level Six Sigma.
There will be lots of practice with these tools on more analytical example projects.
We will also discuss the expectations on Black Belts for leading larger projects and mentoring others in Six Sigma.
One-on-one coaching with your instructor to deliver your first professional quality Lean Six Sigma project, via our online classroom.
We expect you to spend roughly 10% of your work day for a maximum of three months working on your certification project.
The likelihood is the project will be part of your work and the only extra effort will be documenting it to support your certification.

We use small class sizes to allow lots of interaction with the instructor, as well as allowing us to make the course tailored and relevant to your specific interests.
There will also be quite a few breakout sessions of smaller teams of students and instructors to test and practice the tools.
We like participation! We think as students you learn most by questioning, challenging and testing what you hear.
We use Zoom Workplace for all teaching and breakout sessions. It's free to download and use. A laptop or desktop computer with a camera and a headset with microphone will work best in class.
The course notes and teaching examples will be distributed via a public One Drive folder for you to download your own local copies.
Weekdays, from 9am until 4pm UK time, with plenty of breaks in between!
A typical day usually goes as follows but these standard times can be adjusted to accommodate schedule conflicts (including different time zones!). Let us know at the start of the class and we’ll work it out with agreement of the class at the time.
We will use the statistics package JASP, which is free to download and use. Simply download and install it before the class starts.
This is supported by a number of universities and institutions lead by the University of Amsterdam.
It is a port of SPSS from IBM. It has all the capabilities and functionality that we need right up to the expert analyst level.
It is easy to use and it has excellent reporting formats for your project documentation.
It is important that we all have access to the same tools for classwork and breakouts and JASP is a great choice for all of our stats analysis needs.
You will easily transfer the knowledge gained using JASP to any of the other proprietary stats tools used in your business.
No. We don't record any of our live teaching with students.
Yes, of course. Don't worry!
If at any point the demands of your job or your personal plans change and conflict with the schedule you can always defer to a later cycle and pick up where you left off.
No problem.
Firstly, we don't record any of our live teaching.
We also don't required you to give your full name when you sign into the classroom.
Before joining the class you will also be able to set up a background blur to obscure things that might be in view behind you.
We will send you a copy of all the slides and all the training examples before the start of the class.
We think it is important that you have access and are able to make notes on the material as you learn.
