The Levels of Lean Six Sigma Certification

Lean Six Sigma certification can be broadly thought of having three tiers in order of advancement. The most common of theses are:

  • Green Belt
  • Black Belt
  • Master Black Belt

Other levels also exist such as White belt and Yellow belt.

...on Master Black Belts

It should be noted that becoming a Master Black Belt is a process of becoming a successful coach of other Lean Six Sigma practitioners, and comes only with real-world experience of teaching and practicing Lean Six Sigma.

What's Matters Most in Lean Six Sigma Certification?

Certification in Lean Six Sigma is as much about leadership as it is in gaining the knowledge and experience of using the tools.

This is the model used by large employers with the infrastructure to support their own employees in taking on the responsibility of delivering Lean Six Sigma projects.

We also find that what employers want in their continuous improvement specialists is to see practical competency demonstrated by project delivery.

Technical details and formulas are all well and good, but practice with the tools in realistic classroom scenarios and then ultimately in real-life workplace projects, will give you the competency to deliver.

How Long Certification Takes

How long the classroom training takes

The time your training takes depends on your certification level.

For example, each of our course modules take 2 days, therefore the classroom time for each course will be as follows:

Green Belt — 6 days
Black Belt — 8 days
Expert Black Belt — 10 days

How long your workplace project will take

"How long will my project take?" is the wrong question. "Can I afford not to do continuous improvement?" is a better one.

We hope that continuous improvement becomes part of your every day activity and not an extra that you do in your spare time.

That being said, we wouldn't expect you to spend more than 10% of your time for three months working on your project.

The likelihood is the project will be part of your work and the only extra effort will be in documenting it in such a way that you can use it to support your certification.

How Much Certification Costs

The cost of certification depends on your certification level.
