Based on our survey of 40+ courses:
Prices for Lean Six Sigma Green Belt were:
- £892 on average, for self-paced courses
- £3,173 on average, for online live and face-to-face courses

- £1,489 on average, for self-paced courses
- £5,718 on average, for online live and face-to-face courses

But… Course Fees Aren't The Only Cost!
There are other significant hidden costs to consider when choosing a certification course which we'll cover in this article, such as:

Maybe more importantly, you should consider the value of a certification course, and whether the course is right for you before you enroll.

Course Costs
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Average Course Prices
The data we collected on Green Belt certification courses show that the cost of a course is very much dependent on the way the course is delivered.
The self-paced courses are, perhaps obviously, the most inexpensive. It's worth noting that the online live average is slightly skewed upwards by one or two courses with uncommonly high fees.
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Average Course Prices
The costs of Black Belt certification courses show a very similar pattern to Green Belt course costs, but are understandably higher overall.
For Black Belt, self-paced is again the most inexpensive course category. The online live average is also slightly skewed upwards by two courses with uncommonly high fees.
The Master Black Belt's Take on Course Costs…
Self directed leaning is possible, but takes motivation and determination. You should consider if you would do just as well with a good book than a more expensive self-paced course.
Online, instructor led courses will likely not only save you significant time and effort over a self-paced course, but also on the extra cost of travel and accommodation that come with a face-to-face course.
With the right interactive style of teaching and with a small group, I think online learning is just as effective as face-to-face.
Other Hidden Costs
Certification Renewal Costs
More than 20% of courses we surveyed provided a certification that expired after 3 years.
The certificate holder will need to pay more fees, or go through further training or even sit more exams to renew these certifications.

Software Costs
Minitab
Many of the courses require students to install Minitab to complete their practical excerises. A Minitab annual license for a single user starts at £1400.
Minitab offer a free trial for first time users, and this will likely be enough for your period of study. However, this will not cover your continuing Lean Six Sigma practice.
You Don't Need to Pay for Minitab…
To save our students and practitioners £'000s in subscription fees, we designed our courses around the statistical software package JASP.
JASP is a fully featured and 100% free alternative to Minitab used by universities all over the World.
Office Software
You will also need software to view and edit course materials. Free alternatives such as Google Docs, or LibreOffice do exist, but you may need time to become familiar with these.
Certification Exam Fees and Exam Retakes
This is something to consider when enrolling in a course which uses an external certification organisation.
Always check course details to see if the course price includes an exam voucher or similar.
Another possible cost is that you may need to retake an exam if you do not pass the first time.
Some course providers do include free retakes, or free or discounted retraining as part of their course package.

Miscellaneous Costs (Travel, Accommodation)
It's very likely that you will incur travel and accommodation costs for your Lean Six Sigma certification courses or exams, in particular when attending an in person course.
This will be a significant additional cost and should be factored into your choice of course. These costs are why many are opting for online study.

Do employers recognise the differences between certifications?
A certificate may certainly help you to get an interview. However, employers know that what really matters is experience of actual project delivery.
Ultimately, training courses that support your delivery of a real improvement project will provide the greatest long term value to you and your employer.

How we Chose which Courses to Include
We had access to a large amount of certification course information. To include the right data in our survey we used the following selection criteria:
- Courses must be Lean Six Sigma courses.
- It must be possible to study all courses from the UK, in English, remotely or in person.
- Every course must be comprehensive: It must have no prerequisites, or the prerequesite courses must be included in the data (cost, duration, etc).
- Only undiscounted prices must be used.
We selected over 40 Lean Six Sigma courses, chosen in order of their search rank for relevant search keywords in the UK.
Finally, we included data on each of the certification authorities that each provider of the selected courses used as well as some extras.
