The goals of 5S are to improve workplace productivity, increase the quality of work, improve safety and morale, while also reducing waste.

5S is made up of 5 steps:

Separate what is needed from what isn't

Reorganise into an efficient and effective place to work

Make everything clean, something everyone can take pride in

Maintain the standard of cleanliness and organisation

Monitor performance and invest in teamwork

By following the principles and examples in this course, whatever your workplace, you can acheive all the goals of 5S.

A 5S workplace is an efficicent place to work since everything needed is easy to find, and places are easy to access.

The improved flow of people, work and materials increases quality, safety and moral, and reduces the amount of defects and waste.

5S is a core Lean skill. It's easy to learn and is often used as a first initiative in organisations new to Lean.
